Discover Bayahibe, a favorite tourist destination

Saona Island and the beautiful beaches of Bayahibe, on the country’s eastern region, are the most popular places visited by tourists traveling to the Dominican Republic. More than 350,000 vacationers visit the region each year.  It is a privileged area which provides the visitor with an interesting mix of ecotourism activities, extreme sports, and community tourism, all situated minutes away. Discovering Bayahibe means leaving the comfort of nearby hotels and adventuring out to discover the region’s hidden beauty.

By discovering Bayahibe the visitor will have the opportunity of becoming familiar with the country’s national flower, the “Pereskia Quisqueyana” or “Rose de Bayahibe.”  The more adventuresome will be able to explore ancient caves that were once inhabited by the native Tainos, the island’s original inhabitants.  A visit to the National Park of the East, and to be able to swim in the clear waters of its hidden springs, is a real treat.  But, pretending to be in paradise while on Saona Island, will be the ultime experience.

On the island visitors will be able to enjoy the freshest of fish, purchase hand-made necklaces and accessories with natural materials, or purchase or smoke cigars and/or enjoy Dominican rum as well as enjoy other aspects of the local culture.

This destination is only 15 minutes from La Romana’s international airport, 40 minutes from Punta Cana’s international airport, and 90 minutes from Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo. (Neida Ovalle)
