Chief Deputy: Hotels, bars, restaurants will still charge 10% tip
Santo Domingo.- Chamber of Deputies president Abel Martinez on Tuesday hotels, bars and restaurants will continue to receive 10 percent of for the mandatory tip charged to customers.
Martinez, who made the announcement after a group of hotel operators and bar and restaurant owners joined a protest against the tax reform outside Congress, said the removal of the obligatory tip wasn’t included in the bicameral commission’s report.
The top Deputy met in his office with executives of the country’s fast food chains and hoteliers who accompanied a group of protesters in front of Congress to demand that it rescind the elimination of 10 percent.
Martinez didn’t specify whether the bill would have to return to the Senate given the change to the text.
