Chef from Tortuga Bay Hotel to participate in culinary competition in Thailand
The chef at the very popular and exclusive Tortuga Bay Boutique Hotel, situated in Puntacana Resort & Club in the country’s easternmost region, will represent the Dominican Republic in the “So Amazing Chefs” competition, to be held in September at the So Bangkok Sofitel Hotel, in Thailand.
Participants are expected from the United States, Denmark, France, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Holland and South Africa, among others.
Chef Romain Valicon is in charge of the hotel’s “Bamboo” Restaurant, classified as a four-star establishment by the Association of American Automobiles (AAA, the prestigious US-based auto club).
Chef Valicon is a member of the “Académie Culinaire de France” and the “Euro-Toques” Organization. He graduated from the Jehanne de France Culinary Arts School, in Lyon, France.
He has worked in the “El Norte,” owned by Paul Bocuse, the creator of the “Bocuse d’Or” award. Bocuse is the only chef in the world who has been able to maintain the coveted three Michelin stars, a sign of excellence in the sector, for over 44 years.
Valicon is also one of the most gifted disciples of Eric Pansu who, in 1996, was selected as the best chef in France and chief executive officer of Mr. Bocuse’s restaurants in Lyon.
The “Bamboo” has received the four diamond rating by the American Automobile Association (AAA).
The Turtle Bay was included in the Travellers Choice Awards 2012 listing, issued by the users of the online travel website TripAdvisor.
It is also the highest rated hotel in Punta Cana, and is part of the “Leading Hotels of the World” list.
This boutique hotel also received, for a second consecutive year, the Five Diamond rating from the AAA Guide, issued only to establishments that demonstrate the highest level of excellence in every facet of their operation.
The Turtle Bay is comprised of 15 luxurious villas (for a total of 50 rooms), which have been built using an architectural design that brings in and integrates the beautiful surrounding landscape.
All were decorated by world-famous fashion designer Oscar de la Renta.
It also received a special award for its friendly environmental practices from the “The Leading Small Hotels of the World” group, and was recognized as a “Best International Resort” by the Spanish edition of Conde Nast Traveler.
The beachside hotel is adjacent to two golf courses designed by Tom Fazio and PB Dye. The facility also includes a luxurious Six Sense Spa.
