Business leaders want government officials out before August 16
Santo Domingo.- Business leaders yesterday urged government officials to resign their posts so the incoming president Danilo Medina can choose his cabinet and other collaborators without pressure.
They said the president elect needs to appoint new faces in government to materialize the changes Dominican society demands and have a clear path to choose the staff he considers most appropriate.
Industries Association president Ligia Bonetti and its executive director Circe Almanzar; Hotels and Tourism Association (Asonahores) president Julio Llibre and executive director Arturo Villanueva agreed it’s what is most convenient, but recognize that current government officials’ term ends the very day the new president takes office.
Thus far only Justice minister Radhames Jimenez has tendered his resignation, while the Presidency’s press director Rafael Núñez, has been bidding farewell to the media, hoy.com.do reports.
“We as entrepreneurs hope he appoints people of his trust who’re really willing to work with efficiency in government administration,” Bonetti said, adding that Medina shouldn’t feel pressed to keep people in their jobs. “A new president requires a team structure to make the necessary changes.”
