Barrick Gold to start production in Pueblo Viejo in August
Santo Domingo.– Barrick Gold Corp. announced it has essentially completed the construction of its Pueblo Viejo mine and expects to pour gold extracted from the mine next month with commercial production in the fourth quarter.
According to Jamie Sokalsky, CEO of the world’s largest gold company, after an investment of about $3.8 billion the mine is expected to produce up to 125,000 ounces of gold this year and to reach full production in 2013.
Pueblo Viejo, the largest private investment ever in the Dominican Republic, is a joint venture of Toronto-based Barrick and Goldcorp Inc. of Vancouver, and is expected to be among the world’s most productive gold mines.
