59% growth of Americans tourist arrival in January-April
The Dominican Republic has become a hot destination for South Americans. Recent statistics indicate that visitors from this region to the Dominican Republic (through the country’s airports) grew by 23% during the January-April period of this year. However, the United States and Canada are still the country’s two most important tourism markets.
During the first four months of this year, tourists visiting the Dominican Republic grew by seven percent, in comparison to the same time period last year.
This increase indicates that 29,324 new visitors visited the DR during this period: 9,411 (3.13%) from Argentina; 7,993 (1.39%) from Venezuela; 4,864 (1.72%) from Brazil; 3,277 e Dominican is the hot destination in South America.
In total arrived in the in the quarter 1.5 million tourists. 49 000 from Argentina, Brazil, 26.975, 21.641 Chile, Venezuela and Colombia 13.699.
This was the fastest growing region in the arrival of foreign visitors to the Dominican Republic by air in the period from January to April this year. But U.S. and Canada are the two major markets.
Right now, North America is the largest source of tourists to the Dominican Republic, with a 59.80% share of all tourists visiting the country. This number has increased by 9.04%.
In absolute terms, almost 80,000 more tourists visited the country this year than during the same time period last year.
The arrival of non-resident passengers during the first four months of the year grew by 7.35%, for a total of 1,754,892 visitors, a jump in numbers of more than 120,000.
The segment of non-resident foreigners grew by 5.59% during the month of April in relation to the same period in 2011.
Punta Cana’s international airport maintained its leadership in the movement of passengers, receiving 981,077 visitors, representing approximately 62% of the total number of visitors, followed by Las Americas international airport, which handled 17.10% of international travelers.
