Leading hotel chains to discuss Dominican tourism’s future
Santo Domingo.- A select group of foreign hotel investors and local business leaders will attend the event “Dominican Tourism: keys, foundations and concerns” October 18, hosted by the Group Preferente to mark the 20th anniversary of the magazine Preferente and the launch of the Website arecoa.com.
The gathering aims to take the pulse of the Dominican tourism sector and analyze its future perspective with topics of interest including hotels and residential growth, and its impact on the country’s economic development. Also on tap will be the need for pending infrastructure, and Dominican Republic’ role in dealing with other competing Caribbean destinations.
Among the featured hoteliers figure Miguel Fluxá (Iberostar Group), Gabriel Escarrer (Group Meliá Hotels International), Pablo Piñero (Piñero Group), Rafael Blanco (Group Viva Wyndham), Carmen Riu (Riu Hotels Group) and Ventura Serra (Occidental Hotels), all with investments in Dominican Republic.
For the local tourism sector figure Julio Llibre, president of the hoteliers and businesses grouped in Asonahores and Frank Rainieri, president of the Group Puntacana, among others.
Also present will be the ministers of Tourism Francisco Javier Garcia and of Public Works, Victor Diaz, whereas Christopher Paniagua will be representing Banco Popular, the main sponsor of activity, slated for the hotel Barceló Santo Domingo staring 9am.
