Hotel occupancy at 80%, all booked for next week
Santo Domingo.- Hotel occupancy in Dominican Republic’s tourist resorts is currently 80 percent and the hotels are expected to fill completely by next week, affirmed National Hotels and Tourism Association (Asonahores) Executive vice president Arturo Villanueva yesterday.
He said the foreign visitors staying in hotels these days come mostly from the United States and Canada, followed by Latin America and Europe, and around 5 percent locals. Villanueva, cited by newspaper Hoy, said the East region’s hotels lead in occupancy with around 90 percent, while the other resort areas range between 70 and 75 percent. The business leader said hotels in Bayahibe, La Romana, Bavaro, Punta Cana and Macao are expected to be at 100% occupancy next week, based on confirmed reservations.
Compared with the same 2010 yearend season, Villanueva said, hotel occupancy this year will post an increase of around 5%. As to 2012, the ASONAHORES executive said the country is trying to attract new markets, especially those which haven’t been hit by the economic crisis.
