Dominican Government, Bar Association join to purge fake lawyers

CARD president Diego Jose Garcia said they requested the decrees issued since 1990 and revealed that Central Electoral Board technicians have found irregularities in some registered certificates, which don’t coincide with their bearer.
He said 10 cases of forged diplomas have been detected pertaining to the Puerto Plata campus of the Technological University of Santiago (Utesa), who’ll be charged in court.
Garcia said also found were “cloned” decrees in the name of third parties; duplications of IDs and membership cards, and that the JCE will be verify all CARD files. “We cannot say that the ID cards are forged so far, rather that the file numbers found there are false. It’s possible that there’s been an error or that the ID is false.”
He warned nonetheless that the work seeks transparency of all CARD members, and those with irregularities will be charged with impersonating a lawyer.
