American couple brutally murdered in Punta Cana
Milagros Caridad and her husband, Augustine Novoa, were shot in the chest and abdomen at the hands of two men who entered his summer home in the tourist area of Bavaro, allegedly to rob them.
The assailants left alive at the couple’s son, 17, and a Haitian security guard identified as Jose Miguel, 32. Both were at gunpoint locked into a bathroom.
The men took some jewelry and personal documents from the safe. At the scene were five caps and three 9 mm bullets.
Augustine had come to the Dominican Republic on Friday night 1st. July to meet with Milagros and son, who spend several weeks there.
Dominican officials reported Wednesday that the National Police chief, Maj. Gen. Armando Polanco José Gómez, appointed an investigative commission.
Colonel Maximo Aybar Baez, director of information and public relations for the National Police, said Thursday at El Nuevo Herald that so far there are three suspects in custody. Several people are being investigated.
It was also occupied a gun from one of the three detainees to perform a ballistics test.
Baez said the director of criminal investigations by the National Police, Colonel Hector Garcia Cuevas, would visit the scene on the morning of Friday.
“We are making progress in investigations,” said Baez. “The director of criminal investigations will be moved to the scene, along with a team of officers to advance on them.”
Residents of Hialeah Novoa said that until now has not reached any family’s residence on NW 62 Avenue and Miami not know when to bring the remains.
In addition to the 17 year old son, the couple is survived by a 23 year old daughter and two sons from a previous marriage of Augustine, according to neighbors.
Tuesday afternoon neighbors reported that the children traveled to the Dominican Republic in the early hours of Sunday.
